set up and waiting
Planning done, now set up and waiting in the hide. Misty sunrise and soft backlight, all looking good.
Misty morning Kingfisher
The planning has come together. Perfect misty sunrise, soft backlight and the Kingfisher has come to visit just before the mist has burnt off the river.
Working the light - Silhouette of Kingfisher on reed mace just after sunrise
Kingfisher on read mace
Kingfisher on read mace - back lit. I took advantage of the early summer sunrise to get this back lit shot. As the sun came up I had a nice side light to some 'normal' Kingfisher shots.

Last sunset of 2013
Wishing everyone all the best for 2014. It's New years eve and it's the last sunset of 2013 over Shapwick heath national nature reserve. Somerset UK. Camera D700, 70-200@200, F9, 1/250 Sec., ISO 400
Sunset over Frencham ponds
Heading home from 3 days at a Home office/Government exhibition I spotted the sun going down over Frencham ponds in Surrey, UK. Great timing, if it hadn't taken so long to pack the kit up I would have gone past earlier and missed the sunset. I parked the car up and ran through the woods to the edge of the lake. Excellent - A still, calm and warm evening and the great crested grebe slowly swimming into the sun just made the photo and moment for me. Starling on winter beech

I picked up the beech branch while out for a walk along the Devon lanes. As soon as I spotted it I knew it would be ideal for my feeding station, all the branches are in the same plane and would be in focus if I positioned it facing & across the front of my hide. The small branches are also nicely spaced and ideal for perching birds with the dry leaves just adding a bit of contrasting colour. I'm always on a project or working on an idea and it's great when it all comes together - Light, setting, subject & timing.
